Storage, NAS & scoped backup solutions

Organise shared files and define how agreed data should be protected and recovered. Steadigital helps Malaysian SMEs scope storage and NAS setup, access permissions and backup solutions around their actual data and operational needs.

Discuss your IT requirements

Start with the task that slows you down

Shared storage and backup solve different problems. A NAS can centralise access, while a backup provides a separate recovery copy. Start with the data, who needs access and what recovery checks matter to your business.

What we can scope together

Possible technical tasks, not completed customer projects. Equipment, access and agreed scope determine delivery.

NAS and storage configuration

Assess capacity, compatible drives, network access and supported NAS/storage features. Configure agreed volumes and shares, then test access from selected devices.

Shared-folder permissions

Define access by user or group where supported. For example, separate general office files from restricted management folders and test agreed permissions with representative accounts.

Scoped backup configuration

Agree the data sources, destination, schedule and retention. Configure supported backup tasks and document alerts/review responsibilities. External storage, cloud subscriptions and transfer limits are disclosed separately.

Restore checks and handover

Where scoped, restore selected sample data into an approved test location and record the result. Explain the tested recovery limits and who maintains the arrangement. A successful job status alone is not evidence that every workload can be recovered.

Choose the right setup

RAID is not a replacement for backup, and storing all copies on one device leaves shared risks. Assess capacity, retention, isolation and recoverability for the agreed data. Disaster recovery, incident recovery and data rescue are separate scopes; no zero-data-loss or guaranteed recovery promise is made. Onsite work in Kuala Lumpur/Selangor requires confirmed availability.

Agreed deliverables

How the project works

  1. Review the requirements. Identify equipment, access, dependencies and business impact.
  2. Agree scope and price. Confirm availability, change window, acceptance checks, responsibilities and external costs.
  3. Implement, test and hand over. Make approved changes, verify agreed checks and record remaining issues and rollback information.

What to bring to the first conversation

Identify data types and volume, devices/users, permission requirements, current copies and desired retention. Describe the recovery priority and any legal or business constraints. Use anonymised examples initially and arrange data access securely after approval.

Questions before you begin

Is a NAS itself a backup?

It depends on its role. If the only copy of a file lives on the NAS, that file is not backed up merely because the NAS has multiple drives.

Can you set up cloud or external backups?

We assess supported tools, destinations, data volume, permissions and costs. The schedule, retention and any restore testing are agreed before configuration.

Do you recover files from failed disks?

Data rescue is a separate assessment and may need a specialist. Do not keep making changes to a suspected failed device; seek human review first.

Who checks backups after handover?

The agreement identifies who reviews alerts, capacity and restore checks. Ongoing maintenance is separately scoped; a setup project does not imply continuous monitoring.

Working with Malaysian businesses

Remote work for Malaysian businesses and onsite work in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor depend on task suitability, location and confirmed availability. Scope, timing and commercial terms are agreed before work begins.
